8th day of travel – Bureaucracy is catching up again

Monday August 15th

We are sad having to say goodbye to Medjugorje and Villa Maranatha. But sooner or later we have to start making our way back again – direction Ireland. Unfortunately every holiday has to come to an end.

We have planned to take the ferry from Split to Ankona, Italy. Ideally we would take the night ferry with a cabin so we do not have to look for any rooms in Ankona. Then – so we thought – we make our way up to Germany, passing Italy and Switzerland where we wanted to stop and visit some of my friends.

Unfortunately we again hit troubles with the missing green insurance card. As the ferry is crossing „international“ waters the green insurance card is mandatory and our friend and hotel owner of Villa Maranatha Sebastian is confirming this. Oh no - and that after we had researched online for hours for ferries and possible hotels etc etc etc

Again AA Ireland – thanks for nothing (see my previous article)!

We decide then as an alternative to drive back the same way we came to Croatia, crossing Austria. However maybe this time we drive the scenic coast road and then maybe stop at Split. I have been in Split a few years ago and it is just such a lovely old city with cobblestones and the majestic Diocletian’s Palace. Unfortunately at this time of the year it is totally overcrowded and I doubted that we would find a hotel. We decide to go to Trogir which is close by and nevertheless attractive with its old city and the promenade. Sebastian is contacting one of his friends who is owning a hotel there and: a bedroom for the night is arranged and booked. We are realizing that it is the first time actually at this trip that we book a hotel upfront.

We get a lift back to our car which we had left in Croatia (see my article) before going to Bosnia-Herzegovina and: hooray it is still there in perfect condition as we left it. Our luggage is stored quickly back into our car and we are on the road again.

I have Trogir in very good memory when I did Island-Hopping in Dalmatia a few years ago. The Island-hopping was done by bicycle during the day and food and overnight stay was provided on a boat on which we then shipped to the next Island. Trogir was the harbour where we got picked up and dropped back at the end of the holiday. The old city is very romantic and although has cobblestones it is easy to manage with a Buggy and Toddler. We spend the afternoon there, have again lovely Croatian specialities and are simply just enjoying the view on the promenade and the atmosphere.

You can see many yachts and also rent some of them for a mini cruise. Very handy and I noted some of the addresses for future references - a wedding anniversary maybe….?
Our Hotel Vila Liza is exactly opposite the old city of Trogir and can be reached easily for a little walk. From the outside the Hotel does not look that great but inside it is completely renovated, the rooms are air-conditioned and are quite beautiful. Our room is just beside the roof terrace where breakfast was served.

We are testing again how far the baby-phone is reaching and the reception is great. Although we are on the first floor, it is still working downstairs in front of the hotel where some bistro tables and chairs are positioned along the street. After our little one is fast asleep we are enjoying the view onto the old city at sunset with a lovely glass of red wine while watching other tourists passing by. Another great day on our trip is coming to an end.
