Our Route so far

Home Sweet Home

01.08. – Monday: well rested after a good nights sleep we are ready to attack the next Morning. The Breakfast buffet at IBIS Paris is excellent and offers anything you could wish for. In my case: real French Baguette, fresh hard cheese and Cornflakes for our Toddler who was already flirting again with everybody and breaking all the ladies hearts.

Everything packed into my little Lefti we can hit the road direction Strasbourg. We are having 2 Stops on the way to stretch our legs and let the little one run around. These days nearly every stop at the highway has entertainment for kids in form of swings, slides and other little gimmicks. Our little one finds it great and we let him exhaust himself that he will later fall asleep in the car – so we hope. However our plan doesn’t really work as every few stone throws there is a toll station and the handling with money (no matter how quiet we are) and stopping the car, letting the window down does always wake him just when he was about to fall asleep.
However he is a good sport and slept at least 30 Minutes which we hoped should last until we reach our first destination around Strasbourg where we will visit some friends. However, as usual, about half an hour before reaching our destination he is kicking up a big rumpus, is crying like mad and we can’t even stop because of the way the roads are around Strasbourg. There are many crossings and turn-offs so there isn’t a chance really to even stop at the emergency line. But all is turning out good and only a few minutes later we are enjoying a nice cup of coffee with lovely cupcakes and other delicious French pastries on my friends’ balcony.

Our friends also have a little son, who is just 6 months old. Our “big” one was very protective of and caring for him it was really sweet to look at. They played very well together, however no Football / Soccer just yet, that would probably have let to the old “handball-issue" 2 years ago where due to French foul play Ireland lost the game and couldn’t participate in the World-Cup 2010.

After the visit and lovely break we hit the road again direction Germany, to my hometown. My parents were really looking forward to see us, so was my Granny (who was SO excited to see her little great-grandson) and not to forget my sister with family: 2 Cousins (5 and 3 years old) who are excited to meet and play with their little Irish Cousin.

From Strasbourg to my hometown we only need approximately 1,5 hours and this time it is me who can barely stay in her seat! Everything is so close and yet so far. I can’t wait and to it all there are roadwork’s that slow us down a bit. Driving on the German Autobahn…. Ohboy, I am really not used to it anymore. Everything seems so quick, aggressive and fast. But we manage and at around 9pm we are finally there .... home sweet home you have me back. Although only for a short while :)
